Yes, ever since he split with Paul it's been so much harder to get the gigs.
"And a week today, the Tories will hold an inaugural meeting of their "arts and creative industries network" at M&C Saatchi's headquarters, creating speculation that new celebrity backers could include famous British artists such as Emin and Sam Taylor-Wood who have been patronised by Charles Saatchi."http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/may/05/shortcuts-tracey-emin-conservatives-tories
or, to quote helen hayse:" I cry out for order, and find it only in the arts"
Indeed yes - it occurs to me that anyone from outside of the UK may not be aware of the original 1979 Saatchi advert for the tories which looked like thishttp://www.toryradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/labourisntworking.gif and...... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01180/arts-graphics-2007_1180184a.jpg
I was reminded yesterday of how when the original Saatchi gallery first opened, many artists swore that they would never sell work to the Saatchis specifically because of their advertising for the Tories, which resulted in much of their collection consisting of work from outside the UK. I was reminded of a time when supporting the Tories under Thatcher was on a par with admitting admiration for the Nazis and a serious credibility blow. How things have changed. Not that Emin has much credibility left, if she had any in the first place. Her wrong-headed idea that spending millions on property in Shoreditch was somehow keeping the area alive for artists hit a new low in blinkered stupidity for me, so this latest apparent endorsement comes as no surprise.
Well to get where she is Tracey's clearly got talent for something but what ........?
